33,866 lbs. of food collected on opening day of Evergreen State Fair

Sunday, August 25, 2019

The opening day of the Evergreen State Fair not only provided fun for attendees but served up 33,866 pounds of food to support food banks across Snohomish County. This became the largest single-day food drive at the Evergreen State Fair and a 13% increase from last year.

Food donation from this food drive will provide 28,222 meals for hungry families through 18 food banks in the Snohomish County Food Bank Coalition, which serves the communities of Arlington, Camano Island, Edmonds, Everett, Granite Falls, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Maltby, Marysville, Mill Creek, Monroe, Mountlake Terrace, Sultan, Snohomish and Stanwood.

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the fair goers and the partnership with Snohomish County Parks & Recreation and the Evergreen State Fair” said Brian Smith, Chief Operating Officer at VOAWW.

Although these donations will have a tremendous impact in feeding our neighbors, the need is always constant with over 36,000 individuals most likely needing to visit a Snohomish County food bank next month. If you would like to support the Volunteers of America Hunger Prevention program, please consider making a monetary donation by visiting www.voaww.org or calling 425-252-5320. By making a cash gift, VOAWW is able to stretch your dollar and feed even more families in need.
