Every Rotarian in the World Has Been Tasked to Plant a Single Tree

And boy, that is a lot of trees. Just about 1.2 million, give or take.

When Rotary International President Ian Riseley revealed his presidential year theme of Rotary: Making a Difference, he made it known that environmental sustainability and climate change should be everybody’s concern.

The (then) president-elect backed up his words, issuing a challenge to all Rotary Clubs to plant a tree for each of it’s members by April 22, of 2018.

To that end, on Saturday, April 21st, our local guys and gals are doing just that, and they want you to come along. “Members from the Rotary Clubs of Arlington, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Marysville Sunrise, and Stanwood-Camano, will be joined by member of other clubs, including Interact and Rotaract, to plant trees, socialize and enjoy a barbeque lunch together.”

It kicks off at nine a.m. at 21200 Moran Rd in Arlington, and is part of a riparian effort to restore certain areas along the South Fork of the Snohomish river. The property itself is still owned by the Stillaguamish Tribe as part of its conservation program.

In order to be sure you are getting the most bang for your environmental buck, the trees are being provided. This way they’re ensuring that the specimens planted are the perfect fit for the environment they’re working to restore.

Bring a shovel and gloves, and shoes that won’t mind a little bit of mud.
