Fines for Fireworks Inside M'ville More Than Double This Year

The City of Marysville has issued a press release reminding residents of Marysville that all fireworks are illegal. Last year, the fine for using fireworks inside of city limits was $103.00. This year, that amount has been raised to $257.00. Below is there press release:

Following a successful reduction in property damage and injuries in the first year of a citywide fireworks ban, the City of Marysville and Marysville Fire District once again remind residents that all fireworks are illegal. The fine for discharging consumer fireworks in the city will increase this year to $257, as previously announced.

With the ban in place in 2017, Marysville saw a decrease in the number of fireworks-related injuries, fires and other incidents. The Marysville Fire District did not respond to a single fireworks-related injury call within city limits during the 2017 July 4th holiday.

“We are already seeing the positive effects of the fireworks ban in the reduction of property damage and injuries,” Fire Marshal Tom Maloney said. “We thank all residents for helping with this effort and ask that you choose to celebrate safely again this year by avoiding the use of fireworks.”

The fireworks ban prohibits the use, discharge, sale or trade of any fireworks, including sparklers and “consumer” fireworks within city limits. People who violate the ban will face a $257 fine (increased from $103 in 2017) and possible jail time, depending on the violation. Any fireworks found will also be confiscated by Marysville Police, who will be conducting extra patrols on and around the July 4th holiday.

City residents are encouraged to report illegal fireworks by calling the non-emergency line at (425) 407-3999. To keep emergency phone lines open, please avoid calling 911 unless there is a threat to life or property.
