Marysville Robbery Victim Dies - Police Seek Add'l Perpetrators

Bonnie Johnson - Monday, February 26, 2018

In Marysville, on February 20th, a man and woman were attacked and robbed at gunpoint outside of the Village Inn and Suites in Marysville. During the ensuring conflict, the female fled the scene, and the male victim sustained a gunshot injury to his head, which lead to his subsequent passing the night of February 22nd. After the shot was fired, the two armed assailants fled on foot and were later revealed on cctv to flee the area on a 1995 White Dodge Durango.

Local investigators believe the motivation for the assault and robbery was a recent, successful weekend spent at Quil Ceda Creek Casino. Two of the initial ‘persons of interests’ were identified and have confessed to their role in the crime.

Since the death of the victim, Marysville Investigators have identified two additional suspects. The suspects originally arrested, within twenty-four hours of the crime, never exited the Durago during the robbery. The police are now seeking two men they believe to be the perpetrators of violent act itself.

Per the Marysville Police Department:

Investigators have learned that Jorge Nava Martinez DOB 08-09-86 and his friend Jose Antonio Nava DOB 12-23-87 were the two males seen exiting the white Dodge Durango, approaching the victim, assaulting and robbing him, then returning to the white Dodge Durango and fleeing the area. Information has been developed that all four suspects were in the white Dodge Durango immediately before and immediately after the robbery. “Evidence indicates that one of these two new suspects fired the handgun that ultimately took the victims life,” said Sgt. James Maples of the Marysville Investigation unit.
The two outstanding suspects may still be in the white 2000 Dodge Durango. Possible Washington plate associated with that vehicle is BHL1688.

Both Martinez and Nava are confirmed gang members and have ties to the Everett, Mt. Vernon and Bellingham areas. Martinez sometimes goes by his street name “Speedy” and Nava sometimes goes by his street name “Chi Chi”.

Investigators believe that Martinez and Nava know that the police are looking for them as suspects in this homicide and that they maybe fleeing the area or in hiding. “The fact that they know we are looking for them in connection with this homicide increase the risk factors, the public should not approach these two. If you know their location Call 911 or the 360-363-8300 number,” said Commander Mark Thomas of the Marysville Police Department.

Anyone who may have any information regarding this incident is asked to immediately call Marysville Police detectives at 360.363.8300.”
