Sherwood Community Services Recognized by Snohomish County Council

On Wednesday the 22nd, the SnoCo Council passed resolution 19-024, recognizing and honoring Sherwood Community Services for their 62 years of contributions to the region.

“We are grateful to Sherwood Community Services for their efforts to help adults and children with disabilities in our community achieve their full potential and improve their quality of life,” said Councilmember Terry Ryan.

Sherwood’s Early Intervention program provides in-home therapy for infants and toddlers who have identified developmental delays or medical conditions which place them in a high-risk category for delays, supporting them at home in their natural environments, and withcare takers they are familiar to. It’s an evidence-based model that’s proven itself to be a successful model.

Sherwood also has a Vocational Services program which places high school students or adults with disabilities with employment specialists who help them through the job search process, seek employers, and support their transition into the workplace.

“Sherwood Community Services plays a vital role in our community,” said Council Vice-Chair Nate Nehring. “Providing opportunities for our neighbors with disabilities allows them to live more independent lives and for that, we extend our utmost gratitude.”

“Snohomish County is committed to employing individuals with developmental disabilities with our Supported Employment Program finding creative and cost-effective approaches to employment opportunities and integrating work settings with appropriate ongoing support from an employment specialist. The Council encourages Snohomish County companies to consider employment of those with disabilities, and for all residents to create inclusive environments for children and adults of all abilities.”
