Russell and Hill September Female Athlete: Devon Martinka of Stanwood

The KRKO Radio/Russell & Hill Female Athlete of the Month for September 2018 is Devon Martinka from the Stanwood High School Volleyball team. Devon led the Spartans to an appearance at the 3A State Volleyball Tournament at the Yakima SunDome this season. She is still weighing her options as to where she will compete at the collegiate level.

Swimmer Elli Straume of Kamiak High School is our November 2018 Russell & Hill Female Student Athlete of the Month. At this year’s state 4A swim meet, she took 2nd place in the 200 freestyle (6th fastest in 4A state meet history); 3rd place in the 500 freestyle and her relay teams took 2nd in the 200 freestyle and 7th in the 200 medley. Elli has 12 state podiums in her 3 years at the state meet, with one year to go. (If you’re doing the math, that’s placing everytime she swims at state).

The Russell & Hill Male Student Athlete for the month of October 2018 is quarterback Anthony Whitis of Arlington. Dubbed “The Cardiac Kids,” Anthony led the Arlington football team into the post-season this season. He is among the best Multi-Sport athletes in Snohomish County.

Our Russell & Hill Female Athlete of the Month for October 2018 is Gabi Franco, sophomore soccer player for Jackson High School. Jackson's season ended in the 1st Round of the Playoffs when they were defeated 1-0 against Camas. Here is what Coach Sarah Smart had to say when asked if she had a player worthy of the award: “No one can stop her!”

The KRKO Radio/Russell & Hill Male Student Athlete of the Month for November 2018 is Tre Long of Lake Stevens. Tre was the quarterback for the Vikings and led Lake Stevens to the 4A State Championship game vs. Union in The Tacoma Dome. Tre is very successful in the classroom as well, and he’s hoping to become a history teacher (just ask him about the history of Lake Stevens, and the train in the bottom of the Lake).
