(LOS ANGELES) — Kim Kardashian is known for flaunting her hourglass figure on Instagram, however, Jameela Jamil believes there’s a more distressing reason why the beauty mogul is constantly showing off her body.
On Wednesday, Kardashian uploaded a video of her posing in a corset that showed off an impossibly small waist.
In a lengthy Instagram message on Wednesday, in which she reposted Kardashian’s image, The Good Place actress explained, “I havent been trying to cancel Kim K. I was always trying to arm YOU with the knowledge to recognize for YOURSELVES that this is a bull**** expectation of women, developed by the patriarchy.”
“Kim, like many of us, has had decades of body image issues and obsession,” Jamil continued. “This has been HEAVILY perpetuated by how much the media scrutinized her and her sisters over their appearances. She isn’t actively trying to harm you.”
The 34-year-old sympathized with the Kardashians, adding, “She’s just so harmed and deluded into thinking this is what SHE needs to look like to be special and beautiful and she’s spilling it out onto her following.”
While Jamil maintains what the Keeping up with the Kardashians star did was wrong, it doesn’t open her up for attack, adding they both grew up in the era when “Heroin Chic” was on the rage.
Jameela insisted, “I’m not sure she realizes that she’s doing to others what her idols did to her, in making her think a tiny waist is the key to femininity and sex appeal.”
She concluded, “Unfollow the people who tell you things that hurt your self esteem” and “Follow activists, writers, artists and comedians instead.”
