SNOHOMISH COUNTY, SEPT. 26: The latest Snohomish County PUD billings have arrived in mailboxes throughout the region. Did you get a $200 credit surprise?

About 70,000 of PUD’s 300,000 customers in low and moderate-income households received this $200 credit during the past month thanks to $14 million funding from the state’s Climate Commitment Act. The bill credits were prioritized for customers at or below the 80 percent area median income level.

PUD Customer Service Representative Melissa W. said, “A customer came in today to pay her bill and found that she had a credit of $127.49 and nothing due at this time. She was very happy. She had just lost her job and stated this couldn’t have come at a better time. She was using her last $80 to pay her balance of $72.51.”

“We are grateful to the Department of Commerce and state of Washington for these funds, which will support our most vulnerable customers with their electric bills. Bill assistance for our income-qualified customers is an important part of providing affordable electricity for all,” John Hoffman, PUD Assistant General Manager for Customer and Energy Services said.

The $14 million funding was provided through the Washington Families Clean Energy Credits Grant Program via the Climate Commitment Act. PUD staff worked in partnership with the state legislature to receive the grant funding.

The PUD was also awarded an additional $5.3 in funding, the most of any utility across the state, as part of the Commerce’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates Program. This program will distribute free energy-efficient appliances like washers, dryer, and heat pump water heaters to customers that qualify.
