One of Evergreen Speedway’s most popular events is back this weekend, with the NASCAR Tire Pros Showdown weekend taking to the track July 21-22. This is always one of the best attended days of the year and a real showcase event for the famous 5/8-mile oval track located in the Pacific Northwest. As the summer’s premier NASCAR short track event on the West Coast, the Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway has attracted some of the biggest names in circle track racing.

Drivers like defending Summer Showdown winner Preston Peltier, based in Las Vegas, are set to return to battle it out with Northwest stars such as 7-time track champion Naima Lang, Kulwicki Driver Development finalist Haeden Plybon, Wenatchee 200 winner Kole Raz and many more. “This is what you look forward to all year, this is the crown jewel of the West Coast,” said driver Thomas Stanford who will be competing this weekend. Past notables that have competed in this event include 2014 winner Cameron Hayley who graduated to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 2015 winner from Georgia Bubba Pollard, Northwest local legend and West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame inductee Garrett Evans, and 2022 Snowball Derby winner Derek Thorn.

Ahead of all the racing action, members of the media were invited to attend the annual Tire Pros Summer Showdown Media Day on Thursday July 20th. Starting at 1 pm drivers were available for interviews to discuss all of the action leading into the $25,000-to-win race on Saturday night. “All week long we are working on the cars and getting them ready,” said driver Haley Constance. “We’re normally racing on the 3/8, so we need to adjust our cars and prepare them for the bigger track.”

Friday, July 21 sees the qualifying session for the Super Late Models and the NASCAR Pro Late Models for a 100-lap race on the 5/8-mile track. The Pro Late Models are apart of Evergreen’s NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts weekly series action and will showcase a large field of talented drivers. Saturday, July 22 is the feature event with the Super Late Model 150 lap main event for $25,000. Summer Showdown begins on Friday July 21, with gates opening at 1:30 pm and opening ceremonies starting at 6pm. For more information and to grab tickets visit the Evergreen Speedway website.
