NORTH SOUND, APRIL 17: The weather this week has involved sunshine and warmer spring-like temperatures, great for outdoor activities including visiting the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. In addition, sunsets this week just moved past 8 p.m. for more extended evening sunlight.
However, like the high price of eggs at this time, the weather looks like it will spoil Easter weekend to some degree as well.
Strong high pressure aloft over the region is expected to hold through Friday with likely the warmest temperatures during this stretch of spring sunshine. Highs on Friday will be around 70 degrees for much of the North Sound.
The high pressure aloft though is forecast to weaken and shift inland Friday night as a weak Pacific weather system works its way onshore into Saturday. This weather system is anticipated to produce a few light showers, yet more importantly, cooler temperatures. Highs on Saturday are expected to reach only into the mid and upper 50s, at least 10 degrees cooler than Friday’s warm readings.
The cooler weather with the threat of spotty light showers is forecast to continue into Easter Sunday. High temperatures again will struggle to reach 60 degrees. For North Sound locations that do receive one or more showers this weekend, rain amounts are anticipated to be a tenth of an inch or less.
For those Easter egg hunts and other outdoor holiday weekend activities, Saturday will likely be the relatively ‘better’ day. Both days though will offer a much cooler period with considerable cloud cover than the sunshine experienced this week. Long sleeves and light jackets may be needed throughout the weekend.
Indoors or outdoors, have a wonderful Easter holiday weekend!
