Preliminary reports indicate the number of emergency responses due to fireworks were significantly lower during this July 4th holiday period
than in previous years, within the City of Marysville and throughout the Marysville Fire District’s service area.
During the period of June 23 through July 4, the Marysville Fire District responded to one confirmed fireworks-related injury and one possibly fireworks-related
brush fire. Neither incident occurred within Marysville city limits where fireworks are banned. Marysville Police received one report of a mailbox
vandalized by fireworks.
These preliminary numbers show a significant decrease from 2017 when Marysville firefighters responded to 13 fireworks-related incidents including
12 fires and one injury. Marysville Police saw a reduction of more than 20 percent in fireworks-related service calls during the 2018 July 4th
holiday period when compared to 2017. The number of citations issued for fireworks also decreased.
While fireworks activity continues to be reported, the decline in incidents shows the fireworks ban is effectively reducing fireworks-related fires
and injuries. We appreciate the cooperation of our residents in keeping our community safer.
