Everett PD Brings Back Community Police Academy

After a 20-year hiatus, the Everett Police Department is bringing back its Community Police Academy.

The courses, ten of them, will begin in early April. “The Community Police Academy is a unique learning experience conducted by the EPD and is designed to give citizens a better understanding of the mission, values and operations of the department.” It’s meant to allow residents of the city of Everett, or at the very least someone who works here, to deepen their operating knowledge of the department and how EPD is working towards increased quality of life for all Everett Residents.

Because of the nature of the program, there is an elaborate vetting process to attend the courses, and the spots are limited to 20. The application process opened February 10 and will remain open until March 9th.

On March 23rd, the selected participants will be notified, and will then submit to a Washington State Patrol Background Check. So long as they pass, classes are due to begin April 9th and run through June 11th. The classes themselves will run every Thursday night from 6-9pm.

During the course, classmates will be introduced to the nuts and bolts that all police officers need to know in order to perform their jobs effectively; patrol tactics, investigations, use of force, community outreach, and SWAT, just to name a few.

All Everett residents over 21 are encouraged to apply for the free course (provided that you know you can pass a background check) but especially so if you’re interested in the field of criminal justice, crime trends or even volunteering with the Everett Police Department.
