EVERETT June 10: The Everett Public Schools 34th Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will feed those 18 and under at dedicated sites across Everett this Summer.

SFSP is a federal meal program that provides “high-quality and nutritious foods to children the same way the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program do all year long,” Director of Food and Nutrition at Everett Public Schools Adam Pazder wrote in an email.

The Everett Public Schools is partnering with a variety of community organizations to sponsor 12 summer meal sites this year Pazder wrote.

Unit Director at the Everett Boys and Girls Club Brandon Kvamme is honored to be part of the Summer Meal program, he wrote in an email.

“Here in the Delta Neighborhood in North Everett we have so many families who struggle to make ends meet. We are here to help when and where we can by providing an outlet for these parents to have their children receive the nutrition they need,” Kvamme wrote.

Roughly 16% of those 18 and under in Everett were below the poverty line in 2022 according to a census report of Everett.

From Monday through Friday starting July 1, meals given away will include whole grains, lean proteins, fresh fruits, vegetables and milk.

“The summer months add financial stress to families in addition to paying for childcare, like summer camps, families now need to buy more food at the grocery store. The Summer Food Service Program offers a framework for school districts and community organizations to provide important meals to families when the academic year ends,” Pazder wrote.

All families can participate without registration. Those with dietary restrictions may present a doctor’s note to receive allergen-free foods. Some locations may have meals for adults or parents for purchase.
