Evergreen Fairgrounds Continues Tradition of Annual Food Drive

We are all missing the giant Evergreen State Fair this summer, but luckily, they can continue a small sample of their annual offerings with this much needed food drive. The Fairgrounds is hosting the 2020 Snohomish County Food Drive in the West lot, August 27th, from 4pm to 7pm in the form of a drive through drop off.

“The need for access to good, free food is ever present and we do not see that need ending for several more months, if not into 2021,” said Jessica Moore, Director of Development for Volunteers of America Western Washington in a press release. Last year on opening day, fairgoers received a reduced admission cost in exchange for three items of non-perishable food and they were able to raise just shy of 17 tons of food.

This year feel free to expand your donations to household staples, such as diapers, baby wipes, toiletry items and hygiene items. For food items, consider canned goods, rice, peanut butter, standard kitchen staples like baking ingredients, beans, pasta, and baby food.

That being said, a little cash goes a long way in a strapped economy. “Monetary donations are the best so that we have the flexibility to buy the food we need,” said Moore.

The event also includes a “fair-themed” car decorating contest, for families and business owners. Families can potentially win family four packs for free admission to the 2021 fair and carnival, and businesses have a chance to win 12 free fair admissions for next year.

After all of that, stop at the food trucks on your way to the exit. The setup is pretty easy to enter just drive through the main gate, go right and follow the property boundary until you pass through the donation drive through, followed by the judging stands, and you will be routed to the exit, where the food vendors are lined up so you wrap up your experience with some old fashioned fair food.

All State guidelines for COVID-19 will be followed for this drive-thru event.
