Sadly, Tulalip Officer Charlie Joe Cortez lost his life November 17, 2020, in the line of duty. Officer Cortez was 29 years old when his patrol boat capsized while responding to a call. His remains have not yet been recovered.

He leaves behind two beautiful children. Charlie was a Tulalip Tribal member. He was born, and raised on the Tulalip Reservation which he proudly served. Please join us to honor his sacrifice and support his family.

The memorial service for Tulalip Officer Charlie Joe Cortez will be held on Tuesday August 17, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Angel of the Winds Arena, located at 2000 Hewitt Avenue Everett. WA 98201.

To view the procession, we encourage you to find an area by 11:00 am along Marine View Drive, North of the Navy Station. The procession will travel along the Everett Waterfront, then head East on Hewitt and proceed to Angel of the Winds Arena.

The procession will impact traffic and expect road closures as follows:

  • Wall St and the eastbound right lane of Hewitt Ave from Broadway to Rockefeller Ave,
  • Oakes Ave and Rockefeller Ave between Hewitt Ave and Wall St,
  • Full closure of Hewitt Ave between Colby Ave and Broadway Ave from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The service will be open to the public.
