EVERETT, OCT. 22: Tomorrow striking Boeing machinists will vote on a new contract. The City of Everett is preparing for high traffic volumes near one of the voting locations, Angel of the Winds Arena, where the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) will cast their ballots.
The new contract offers a 35% raise over the four-year duration of the contract. In the contract Boeing deemed the “final” contract, they offered a 30% increase. IAM initially demanded a 40% pay increase.
The new deal does not reinstate pension benefits, which was a point of contention for many IAM workers.
The new contract does enhance the company’s 401(k) match, increasing it to 100% from the previous 75%. The ratification bonus was also increased from $3,000, to $7,000.
Boeing released a statement on Oct. 19 saying, “We look forward to our employees voting on the negotiated proposal.”
IAM workers will cast their ballots from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow Oct. 23. If a majority of workers back the proposal, the contract will be adopted, and the strike will end.
Nearby businesses are anticipated to remain open and accessible during their posted hours unless otherwise announced, according to city spokesperson Kathleen Baxter.
