EVERETT & MUKILTEO, AUG. 19: If you use Mukilteo Blvd between downtown Everett and Mukilteo and have been bracing for the news, the word just hit the street – the long-awaited Edgewater Bridge construction is now set to begin in early November. An exact date is still to be determined according to the city of Everett.
The bridge replacement project will take about 12 months to complete, meaning Mukilteo Blvd. will be closed on either side of the construction site. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians will need to find alternate routes during this project.
The Edgewater Bridge Replacement Project webpage at everettwa.gov/edgewater offers a suite of alternate routes and estimated extended travel times.
The Edgewater Bridge is one of three bridges that cross steep ravines. The original bridges were built decades ago and have a good likelihood of failing during a strong earthquake. The Edgewater project is the first to replace the bridge with a state-of-the-art seismically sound structure that should survive strong ground shaking. No specific timetable has been set for the replacement of the other two bridges yet.

If there is a silver lining regarding the closure of Mukilteo Blvd. for this bridge replacement project, it will impact only one summer.
