MONROE, FEB. 26: A large crash involving three vehicles, one a box truck carrying chemicals has closed all lanes of US 2 between Monroe and Snohomish.
At approximately 9:18, Wednesday, Feb. 26 the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) shared that US 2 eastbound and westbound from Roosevelt Rd (MP 11) to Fryelands Blvd (MP 13) had been closed for a collision.
According to Public Information Officer Peter Mongillo with Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue, a truck with a pressure washing company rear-ended a sedan on US 2 this morning. Due to fog, the drivers had low visibility which may have contributed to the crash, Mongillo said.
The driver of the sedan and the truck pulled over on the road to exchange information. At this time a second car who didn’t see the truck crashed at full speed into the back, throwing the truck driver 20 yards down an embankment.
In a Facebook post from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue at around 10 a.m., they said that the box truck transporting chemicals had leaked, and that a hazmat team was en route to contain the spill.
They have identified the chemical to be bleach, as was marked on the 50-gallon containers that tipped over during the incident, Mongillo said.

The truck driver has been transported to a local hospital. All injuries do not appear to be life threatening, Mongillo said.
Medical aid, fire assistance, the incident response team, state patrol and local police are on the scene. Tow trucks have been dispatched.
Mongillo said that collisions such as these have been happening frequently on US 2 and that drivers should remember to pay attention, slow down and add distance between other vehicles.
At this time there is no estimated time or reopening. This is an ongoing story.
