Marysville Mother Reunited with First Responders
Nyabuony “Nya” Palek was reunited with the first responders who are credited with saving the life of her son during an emotional rewards ceremony held
last week at the Marysville Fire District Board of Directors meeting.
Nearing midnight on April 8 of this year, Nya heard a loud noise from her eighteen year old sons bedroom. Her son, William Jallang, had collapsed on
the floor in cardiac arrest. Upon finding him unresponsive, Nya called 911.
Nya is a nurse by trade, but said that in the moment, her skills fled her. “My skills as a nurse left me that night. I was just a mother.”
Nya herself was also up for a Phoenix Award; even through her panic, she was coached through CPR by 911 dispatcher John Chenoweth before the first
responders were able to arrive. Marysville Police and Fire Fighters, as well as Getchell FD 22 arrived on scene, transported her son to an open
area in order to provide additional lifesaving treatment. Afterwards he was moved to a hospital and is reported to be fully recovered.
“You saved my boy. It was not me, it was you,” Nya said during the awards presentation.

Additionally, the Marysville Fire District also swore in two fulltime firefighters.
Tyler Goarck previously served eight years as a volunteer Getchell firefighter. Goarck grew up in Edmonds and graduated from Pacific Lutheran University
with a degree in Business Administration.
Firefighter Kyle Eisele joins the Marysville Fire District after serving in Kittitas County Fire District 7. Eisele and his wife are expecting a baby
any day.
