EVERETT, AUG. 27: The 2024 National Beard & Moustache Championships will be held in November at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave.
The Snohomish County Sports Commission in partnership with Team Beard USA will host two events in November celebrating the creativity and art of facial hair.
“We’ve been working on bringing this event to Snohomish County for several years now and I’m so pleased that it’s finally happening,” Bryan Nelson, National Beard & Moustache Championship Creative Director said, “I’m really looking forward to flooding the unique town of Everett with facial hair aficionados from across the country. I think that the town is going to love it!”
Since 2010, Beard Team USA has hosted and organized the National Beard and Moustache Championships. The team “strives to promote positive facial hair awareness and the generous charitable community nationwide.”
Everett was supposed to hold the championship in 2020, but it was canceled due to the pandemic, Tammy Dunn, Executive Director of Snohomish County Sports Commission said.
This year the Snohomish County Sports Commission received a tourism grant from the state of Washington and is using it to host the event in downtown Everett.
There will be an “Amateur Competition” on Friday, Nov. 1, and is open to everybody in the community, Dunn said.
“This event is more than guys with beards…this is also about art. They take time to design and create and to compete,” Dunn said.
The National Championship will be on Nov. 2. There will be chances to break or set four different Guinness World Records for the longest beard and mustache chains.
A division for women is also available, Dunn said. In the past, women have created beards of seashells with outfits to accompany the beard.
There are multiple categories within the four divisions which are:
- Mustaches (various lengths and styles)
- Partial Beards (Sideburns, Goatees, etc.)
- Full Beards (styles and lengths
- Craft Beards (facial hair crafted by hand for people who cannot grow facial hair)
Dunn hopes that this event will bring in a “wide range and variety of individuals.”
