Cinema Under The Stars is a long standing, family-centric activity that was developed by the City of Everett’s Cultural Arts department a
decade ago. It is a free, outdoor film showing with a cash only snack vendor, and families are free to spread their blankets and curl up to enjoy
the film. This year it takes place every Friday between July 22nd and August 19th at the Thomas A. Sullivan Park in Silverlake.
The pre-movie entertainment begins at 7:30, with the movie itself to begin at dusk. Full address, movie itinerary and pre-movie entertainment details
are below for upcoming evenings.

According to Claudia McClain of McClain Insurance (one of the continued and primary supporters of the event, as well as PEMCO Insurance and Northwest
Animal Care Hospital), the turnout depends heavily “on the movie and the weather” and can range anywhere from “350 to well over 1500”.

Ms. McClain goes on to say, “The largest crowd that I can remember was in 2014 for “Frozen.” The Thornton Sullivan … parking lot (which is very
large) was at capacity. Families then started parking in the Park & Ride lot in the middle of the freeway at 112th and then walked
down to the park until it was full… The City of Everett does a great job of picking a variety of movies (mostly PG) so that many interests
are served over the course of the season.”

Each year, there is a chosen give-away night, tailored to the movie that is being shown. This has included “penguin socks (Happy Feet), replica Oscar
statuettes (for opening night one year), fun sunglasses and neon hair extensions (Tangled), pirate hats and eye patches (The Pirates, Band of Misfits)
and crowns for all of Frozen princesses”.

For Zootopia, the final film playing on August 19th, this year’s gifts will be animal themed, along with the pre-movie live animal presentation
from none other than the Reptile Man of the Monroe Zoo. PEMCO contributes a lot to the activities as well, and are known for providing free souvenir
photos and lanyards to all who attend.

Ms. McClain says she really can’t specify a favorite moment or memory after all their years of participation. “It’s hard to choose a single memory
but what I can tell you is that every year we are moved by the pure awe and joy that we see in the eyes of the kiddos and parents who attend. Because
Cinema is free – no admission, no cost for the giveaways – many large families and families on tight budgets can come out for a night of fun and
adventure. We feel blessed to be a small part of an event that provides memories that will last a lifetime for these families.”
