Port of Everett Receives Two Container Cranes for South Terminal Project
As part of the South Terminal Modernization Project that’s currently underway, the Port of Everett has received two container cranes. The cranes arrived
on the Michele Foss tug after a bit of a harrowing trip from the Everport Terminal of Los Angeles to Everett, on a barge that measures
120 yards by 40.
Lisa Lefeber of the Port Everett shared via email that, “After encountering 12-foot seas, and 60 mile per hour winds along the West Coast of the Pacific
Ocean, the Michele Foss tug is scheduled to deliver the Port of Everett’s two container cranes for our South Terminal Modernization project
[June 11th]. The cranes will be used to support job growth on our waterfront and in our region, including for the new larger 777X airplane
parts, among other cargoes.”
To make the journey, the cranes required plenty of sea bracing to keep them stable on the 1,200 mile northward, which was welded on over the course
of ten days. Each crane weighs 2.4 million lbs and was moved onto the barge riding along on 320 tires, in order to distribute the weight.
If all goes smoothly, the dock at the South Terminal should be completed in the first half of 2020.
