EVERETT, FEB. 18: The Everett Fire Department responded to a duplex fire yesterday, Feb. 17 that has displaced five residents.
Around 2:40 p.m. firefighters responded to the 5800 block of Fleming Street. Upon arrival they discovered smoke coming from the side of the structure.
As crews removed the siding to gain access, additional firefighters located the main fire within the common wall between the living rooms of both units.
The fire was fully extinguished within approximately 30 minutes of the first unit’s arrival, Everett Fire said in a press release.
A smoke alarm alerted the residents, allowing them to evacuate safely before the firefighters’ arrival. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.
The Red Cross is assisting five displaced residents, including two adults and three children.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but preliminary information suggests it may have been related to an electrical issue connected to a wall heater.
Everett Fire reminds residents that “Smoke alarms save lives” and to make sure you have working smoke alarms in your home.
