EVERETT, MAY 9: During both days this weekend (May 10-11) the left lane of northbound State Route 529 will close near the Snohomish River Bridge for ongoing maintenance.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Washington State Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews will repair an expansion joint in this area.

This work will happen near a full northbound SR 529 closure at the Steamboat Slough Bridge.

People should expect delays and plan for added travel time during these lane reductions. Contractor crews will close northbound SR 529 from 11 p.m. Friday, May 9 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 13.

There will be additional closures southbound of the Steamboat Slough Bridge later this month, however that is currently tentative.

During this time motorists will be able to use the other side to get to or from Smith Island. A shuttle service will be available to take pedestrians, bicyclists and people who use mobility devices around the closure.

Plan for additional traffic in north Everett and in each direction of I-5 as people move around the closures.

People who travel in this area need to:

  • Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
  • If possible, avoid peak traffic hours.
  • Consider alternatives such as transit.
  • Follow detours and avoid neighborhood streets.
