Our KRKO Russell & Hill Female Student Athlete of the Month for September 2024 is senior cross country runner Selena Bangerter of Jackson High School. Selena won the Western Conference 4A Championship for the third straight year with a time of 18:51 (5000 meters). She went to Orange County, California on September 21st and finished 3rd in her group with a three-mile time of 16:45 at the 43rd Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic. Bangerter finished 6th at last year’s 4A Girls state championships in Pasco with a time of 18:37. She carries a 3.97 grade point average and is committed to running cross country at the University of Portland next year. Head cross country coach at Jackson High School is Eric Hruschka; Athletic Director is Erik Heinz.
Tom Lafferty
Tom Lafferty is the Sports Director at KRKO/KKXA Radio. He is a member of the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame; the Snohomish High School Hall of Fame; the recipient of the Dave Duvall Award from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association District One and the Joe Martin Award for Service to baseball's Northwest League. Tom Lafferty & Steve Willits are co-hosts of Prep Sports Weekly, Mondays at 7 pm on KRKO.
