Congratulations to our KRKO Radio Russell and Hill Male Athlete of the Month for April 2020, Owen Bishop of the Arlington High School Class of 2020.
Owen was the Western Conference Baseball Player of the Year in 2019, and was expected to repeat in 2020. An outstanding pitcher and outfielder;
his pitching stats last year: 8-0 with a 0.68 ERA; 85 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings and ops batting average of .136. Offensively, Owen had a .429
batting average and had 12 stolen bases. Except for the COVID-19 Pandemic interruption, he would have been a 4-year starter. Arlington’s record
during his career was 51-3 in Wesco Conference games (36-0 over the past two seasons and a 44 game winning streak going back to 2017); and a 66-10
overall record including District and State tournaments. The Eagles qualified for the state tournament in each of his 3 seasons. Owen had been
considering multiple colleges including: Yale, Gonzaga, Seattle U and UC San Diego; but elected to attend South Dakota State University where he
will play baseball for his Uncle Rob Bishop, the Head Coach of the Jackrabbits. Scott Striegel is baseball coach at Arlington High School.
