Congratulations to the KRKO Radio Russell & Hill Male Student Athlete of the Month for January 2020, Alex Jensen of the Lakewood High School Basketball
team. Alex is a 4-year varsity basketball player and led his team to a 7-1 record in the month of January and a berth into the NW District Tournament.
Lakewood has a combined record of 42-25 over the past 3 seasons after having a losing record in 9 of the previous 10 seasons.
On January 10th against Mount Baker, he broke the Lakewood’s all-time career scoring record; previously held by his Head Coach Anthony Wiederkehr (a graduate
of Lakewood); as well as the school’s all-time steals record on the same night.
Coach Wiederkehr said of his point guard, “He’s a humble kid who often sweeps floors before and after practices, and other little things that most won’t
do. I couldn’t be more proud to have Alex break my scoring record.”
Jensen also placed 9th in the 800 meters, and 9th in the 4x100m relay at the 2A Washington State Track & Field Championships last year.
He has also compete at the State Cross-Country Meet. In his spare time, Alex is the Lakewood High School ASB President and is participating in Running
Start at Everett Community College and is on track to earn his Associate Degree by the time he graduates high school in June. Although he is undecided
on where he will be attending college, Alex is considering Seattle University, Gonzaga and the University of Portland. He is currently a finalist for
a full ride Leadership Scholarship at Seattle U.
