While football fans worldwide have recovered from last weekend’s SuperBowl in Houston; high school sports fans and athletes are prepping for the start
of a month-long post-season binge of district, regional and state competition.
The top wrestlers from last week’s district meets will advance to the regionals this weekend at various sites; the ultimate destination is Mat Classic
XXIX at the Tacoma Dome on February 17th and 18th.
In boys swimming, this weekend are the 4A and 3A district meets, starting with prelims on Wednesday at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. The Class 2A district
meet is at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes. The best qualifiers will compete at the WIAA State Swim Meet on February 17th & 18th at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
The state girls gymnastics meet is also held at the Tacoma Dome concurrently with the Mat Classic wrestling on February 17th and 18th.
Boys and girls basketball has wrapped-up regular season games. The first round of district tournament play begins on Friday, February 10th.
4A district championship games will be played at Everett Community College on Thursday, February 16th; the 3A championship games are at
Jackson High School on Friday, February 17th; the 2A championships are at Mount Vernon High School on Saturday, February 18th and the 1A titles will be decided at Mountlake Terrace High School.
Basketball regionals will be held at various sites on Saturday, February 25th and it all concludes at the WIAA Hardwood Classic State Basketball
Tournaments: 4A & 3A at The Tacoma Dome; 2A & 1A at the Yakima SunDome and the 2B & 1B at the Spokane Coliseum, March 1st thru
the 4th.
