(The Center Square) – A 2-year-old boy who was critically injured in a shooting in Federal Way Thursday morning, died last night.
Police said the child’s father and another person traded gunfire and a bullet struck the 2-year-old, who was inside the car at the time.
The city of Federal Way released a statement saying the boy died at Harborview Medical Center after arriving in critical condition.
Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell told The Center Square Friday morning, “I can’t get into details about the investigation at this point, but attempts to find out more about what happened and discussions with the father are ongoing.”
“It’s incomprehensible and senseless and it makes me and the community justifiably outraged and concerned.”
The mayor applauded the Legislature’s passage this session of an initiative to roll back restrictions on police pursuits.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Federal Way Police Department at (253) 835-2121.
