EVERETT, JULY 29: The warning period for the last four automated traffic safety cameras for red light violations will end Wednesday, July 30.
The goal of the photo enforcement program is to improve traffic and pedestrian safety, the City of Everett said in a press release.
As of 2023, more than 30 Washington cities have ordinances that allow automated traffic safety enforcement, and 8 of the 10 largest municipalities have active photo enforcement programs.
The warning period will end for the intersections below:
- Northbound Evergreen Way at Casino Road
- Eastbound Casino Road at Evergreen Way
- Northbound 4th Avenue W at Evergreen Way
- Southwest bound Everett Mall Way at 7th Avenue SE
Citations will be issued for alleged violations starting July 30, with a penalty of $124.
Cameras take two pictures of your vehicle and record a 12 second video if caught violating speed limits in a school zone or running a red light.
The best way to avoid a citation is to stop before the intersection line at any red light. Make a full stop before making a right turn as well.
The photo enforcement project began last year, starting with West Casino Road in front of Horizon Elementary School. The city determined camera enforcement locations with a high crash history.
Any money generated by the program will be put back into traffic safety projects.
From May 2024 to the end of the year, 12,360 infractions were given at the Eastbound and Westbound camera on Casino Rd. at Horizon Elementary.
