EVERETT, AUG. 11: A section of Broadway is next on the agenda for Everett’s Summer Street Paving project.
The full nightly closure of Broadway between California Street and 18th Street will be in place starting Monday, August 18, at 7 p.m.
The paving of this mile-long road will be done at night to avoid high-traffic times. Typical work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The project is estimated to be completed in mid-September.
The Broadway project will be separated into three phases, with the first closing Broadway between California and 23rd Street. You can find detour routes here.
This is the final part of an ongoing project that aims to repair and maintain street surfaces for safety and rideability, according to the City of Everett.
Funded by federal grants and local funds, several main Everett streets have already been resurfaced, including Evergreen Way, Ross Avenue, and East Casino Road.
Construction times are subject to change, and working hours do not include “holidays, weekends, or days where the temperature is not suitable for laying asphalt,” Kathleen Baxter, Everett Public Works communications manager, said.
It’s important to note that even though I-5 through Everett will be down one lane, staying on I-5 southbound will be the best way to get to destinations south of California Street.
During closure hours, bus stops within the closure zone will be out of service. City transit will post notices at the affected stops. Drivers can expect lane closures and traffic delays while construction is ongoing. Signs will be posted advising motorists of detours, street closures and parking restrictions.
Public works have acquired roughly $822,000 in federal grants and are seeking additional funding. Currently $905,825 in local funds are being applied to the total project cost.
