EVERETT, AUG. 12: Much of Western Washington is under a heat advisory until the end of the day Tuesday, Aug. 12. Temperatures are expected to range from the upper 80s to the mid 90s.
Portions of northwest and west central Washington are under advisory until 10 p.m., Tuesday. Everett will see a high of 87, with nighttime temps dropping into the 60s.
Temperatures are estimated to drop with highs of 71 on Wednesday, Aug. 13 and 68 on Thursday, Aug. 14.
Snohomish County has shared several precautions you can take to lower your risk of heat-related illness:
- Avoid overexertion and stay hydrated. Heat strokes can happen even with moderate heat.
- Children and pets should never be in a vehicle unattended. Hot car deaths occur all year.
- Limit sun exposure, especially during the hottest parts of the day. This is usually between 3-6 p.m.
- Look out for those who are at higher risk of heat stroke, including infants, young children, outdoor workers, pregnant people, and older adults.
Extreme heat events are becoming more frequent in the Pacific Northwest, according to the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management.
