EVERETT, AUG. 19: The Everett City Council approved a first-of-its-kind “Skate Dot” at Lion’s Park.
The 2,000-square-foot skate area will include a small half pipe, a small quarter pipe and a grinding curb to meet the “ever-growing popularity of skating,” the ordinance said.
“Lion’s Park serves as an important gathering place for residents of the Beverly Park and Cascade View Neighborhoods,” City Spokesperson Simone Tarver wrote in an email. “Based on feedback from the neighborhood group, the adjacent Boys and Girls Club, as well as the City of Everett Police Department, we believe it is an ideal location to introduce Everett’s first-of-its-kind skate feature.”
The council approved funding for the design, permitting and construction costs during last week’s city council meeting.
The project is funded through Capital Improvement funds and an $80,000 grant from Snohomish County. It is estimated to cost $360,000. The city has applied for additional funding from the state, Tarver wrote.
The final design is anticipated to be completed this fall, with the goal of opening in summer 2026.
The council is also considering putting in six additional lights at Lion’s Park to improve visibility. This will be funded by both the county and American Rescue Plan Act dollars.
This proposed action item will be put to a vote on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
