EVERETT, SEPT. 30: The Everett City Council approved an ordinance securing design funding for a pedestrian bridge over Broadway connecting Everett Community College and Washington State University Everett.

This bridge will enhance pedestrian safety by decreasing the number of pedestrians crossing North Broadway and allowing for crossings to occur without interacting with traffic, the ordinance reads.

The bridge will be located just north of 10th Street. Construction could start as soon as 2027 and is anticipated to be completed by 2029, Kathleen Baxter, city public works communications manager wrote in an email.

The ordinance approved Wednesday, Sept. 24, gave the green light for the design phase of the project. The city was awarded a Move Ahead Washington (MAWA) grant totaling $12.9 million, which will be used to fund the project. The city approved $2.5 million for the design phase.
