EVERETT, DEC. 11: The City of Everett continues to monitor the Snohomish River as Washington experiences severe flooding reaching historic levels, prompting a statewide emergency.
On Wednesday, Dec. 10, the city announced potential flooding that could impact the Riverfront neighborhood in north Everett. Current forecasts show that the Snohomish River will reach its peak in the lowlands around noon, Thursday, Dec. 11.
No evacuation orders have been issued at this time. However, conditions can change quickly. The city advises residents to check the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management’s Flooding portal for the latest alerts and to sign up for emergency notifications.
Those living on Ebey Island and low-lying areas west of Sunnyside Boulevard have been ordered to evacuate. They are advised to prepare not to return for several days and to take pets and essential items.
Everett is under a flood watch until 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12. The city is under a flood warning until 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. A flood watch means flooding is not occurring but is possible; a flood
warning is issued when hazardous conditions are imminent or already happening.
If you live and or work along the Snohomish River, the city advises you to:
- Never drive or walk through flooded areas.
- Make a plan if you need to evacuate; pack a go-bag; stay informed.
- Be prepared for possible road closures.
- Stay tuned to official forecasts and City updates.

Cold-weather shelters have been opened to provide safe places for unsheltered people who are impacted by this weather emergency. Snohomish County also opened emergency stabling at the Evergreen State Fair Park in Monroe for livestock evacuated from flood areas.

Out of precaution, the Everett Animal Shelter evacuated all animals from its facility on Wednesday afternoon. The shelter is closed until further notice.
Rotary Park and Langus Riverfront Park are closed until further notice.
Lowell-River Road is closed at Rotary Park until further notice. Avoid the area and use alternative routes.
Per the Washington State Department of Transportation, northbound and southbound State Route 9 are closed Thursday, Dec. 11, south of Snohomish due to water over the roadway. No traffic is allowed from SR 96/Lowell-Larimer Road to Marsh Road (mileposts 7 to 8). There is no estimate when SR 9 will reopen and people are advised to seek alternate routes.
