MARYSVILLE, MARCH 5: The Marysville Parks, Culture and Recreation (MPCR) Department is holding auditions for the third annual Marysville Talent Show on March 5 at 4 p.m. at the Marysville Opera House.

The event was revitalized by the MPCR after Maryfest Inc. ended the version traditionally associated with the Marysville Strawberry Festival.

“It is quite a lot of work to put on,” said Dana Barstad, Cultural Arts Supervisor for MPCR. “As a parks department, we’re always looking for new events and we thought, wouldn’t that be fun to bring it back?”

The event was highly received from the start in 2024 and has primarily featured singing, dancing, band, and magic acts performed by members of the local community. This year, 36 hopefuls have signed up and there’s still time for more. However, only 15 will make it through to the live show on Friday, March 27 also at the Marysville Opera House.

“It’s heartbreaking; I love everyone who auditions,” said Barstad. “It kills my soul to say no.”

Local business Abbey Van Dam Carpet and More returns as a partner with MPCR to provide a $1,000 cash prize to the winner.

Soroptimist International of Marysville is also partnering with the event, hosting the beverage bar to raise funds for their non-profit. Soroptimist International is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of women in our local community and throughout the world. They provide financial assistance and mentoring to young girls, while volunteering at food banks and supporting the fight against violence and trafficking.

“I just hope everyone has a really great time at the Opera House and they feel inspired to try out next time,” said Barstad. “It’s awesome to see the local talent we have.”

Tickets to the live talent show on March 27 are $15 and can be purchased at the MPCR website.
