KIRKLAND, MAY 29: If your weekend plans involve driving I-405 southbound from Bothell to Bellevue, be prepared for delays and detours May 29 – June 1. Starting tonight at 11 p.m., all southbound lanes of I-405 at Northeast 124th Street in Kirkland will close to traffic, requiring a detour to re-enter I-405 southbound at NE 70th Place.
However, part of southbound I-405 will re-open at 6 a.m. Saturday May 30th at NE 124th street allowing drivers to proceed to the NE 85th Street off-ramp where drivers will be detoured west bound and re-directed on surface streets to the NE 70th Place on-ramp to resume on southbound I-405, as depicted below.
All lanes of southbound I-405 at NE 85th Street will re-open at 4 a.m. Monday June 1 for the morning commute.
Washington State Department of Transportation is closing the southbound I-405 section for the weekend to install fish passage culverts required by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling involving fish protection and habitat. Crews will cut across a section of the freeway to create a tunnel for the new fish passage and then cover the roadway again with paving and striping.
