EVERETT –Congressional, State Legislative and State Supreme Court elections headline the August 4th Snohomish County primary election and the on-line voter’s guide has just been released by the office of Auditor, Garth Fell.

The sample ballot is also available, which includes all the candidates and measures that will be voted on in the August Primary in Snohomish County.

For the August Primary, several districts have placed a tax-increase or tax-continuation measure on the ballot, including:

• City of Everett: Emergency Medical Services Levy Lid Lift
• City of Stanwood: Sales and Use Tax for Enhanced Public Safety Services
• Darrington School District No. 330: Replacement of Expiring Educational Programs and Operations Levy
• Fire Protection District 15: Tax Levy for Maintenance and Operations
• Fire Protection District 19: Emergency Medical Services Levy Lid Lift
• Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue: Emergency Medical Services Levy Lid Lift
• Public Hospital District No. 1 (EvergreenHealth Monroe): Bonds for New Replacement Hospital
• Sno-Isle Intercounty Rural Library District: Regular Property Tax Levy Lid Lift for Support of Public Library Services

In a primary election, candidates who have filed for a partisan position will always appear on the primary ballot, regardless of how many people filed to run for that position, says Sierra Cornelius, Snohomish County Auditor Communications Officer. Candidates who have filed for a nonpartisan position appear on the primary ballot only if more than two candidates filed for that position.

The following are the more prominent primary election contests on the August 4 ballot:

Precinct Committee Officer
A Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) is the representative of a political party at the district level. PCO candidates do not appear in the Local Voters’ Pamphlet and are only on the ballot if more than one person from a political party files in a precinct, according to Cornelius. PCOs serve two-year terms.

Voting in Snohomish County

A 17-year-old who will be 18 by the November General Election can vote for candidates in the August Primary.

There are three ways to register:

  • Online–Register online at VoteWA.gov on or before July 27 to vote in this election. You will need a current Washington State Driver’s License or ID card, or the last 4 of your social security number.
  • By Mail–Paper registration forms are available at public libraries, schools, city halls, and online (printable form at votewa.gov). Fill out and mail the form to: Snohomish County Elections, 3000 Rockefeller Ave, M/S 505, Everett, WA 98201. To vote in this election, we must receive the form by July 27. Forms are available in many languages.
  • In Person–Visit the Snohomish County Auditor’s Office or an Accessible Voting and Voter Services location to register to vote in-person through 8 p.m. on Election Day. The address is 3000 Rockefeller Avenue, Admin West Building – 1st Floor, Everett, WA 98201.

Return your ballot to an official ballot drop box or by mail! Voters are encouraged to use one of the 36 ballot drop boxes
available for this election. Ballots can be dropped off at an official ballot drop box up until 8 p.m. on Election Day, August 4. Voters returning ballots by mail should mail them at least a week before Election Day, according to Cornelius.
