OAK HARBOR — Naval, aviation and jogging fans have a chance to see Naval Air Station Whidbey up close and personal during its annual public open house on August 22, at Ault Field.
NAS Whidbey Island will host its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vistors can see the aircraft that are the hallmark of the Oak Harbor installation including Growlers, P-8s, SAR, MQ-9, and other exhibits. To start the open house, there’s a 5K run around the flightline. Registration for the 5K will be at 7 a.m., with the run starting at 8 a.m.
Because of security precautions, photography is not allowed by participants in the 5K run. Photography by participants is forbidden during the 5K run, however, photography at the beginning and finish of the race is permitted at the starting gate.
In concert with those security precautions, live streaming video will be strictly forbidden during the entire event, including official live streaming on social media.
For those not participating in the 5K run, the flight line for all other visitors will open at 10 a.m. when the flight line opens for static (non-operational) displays of the aircraft and other equipment.
Charles Porter Gate will open at 6:30 a.m. for those participating in the 5K run. For more information about the public open house, click here.
Aviation memorabilia will also be available for purchase as well as a variety of food and beverages.
Everyone over the age of 18 is required to have a photo ID. To gain entry, everyone must have Real ID Act compliant identifications for entry. Information on Real ID Act requirements are available here.
Foreign nationals from select countries may be welcomed with enhanced security screening protocols. Guests originating from Japan, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom may be escorted on by a sponsor holding valid DoW credentials (CAC, retiree ID, dependent ID). All others must be properly vetted prior to being granted access to the event
All guests must use the Charles Porter Ave. gate to enter the base where you’ll be directed to parking.
Due to security measures, the following items are not allowed on the base: alcohol, bags larger than 12″x6″x12″, backpacks, weapons (to include pocket knives), coolers, cameras with lenses exceeding 200mm zoom, camera tripods, cameras that can’t fit in 12″x6″x12″ bag while fully assembled, and pets.
NAS Whidbey advises drugs or drug paraphernalia including marijuana products are prohibited from the base. Permitted items will be strollers, diaper bags, small women’s purses, wheelchairs, certified service dogs, bottled water, and small cameras.
