KUALA LAMPUR — Malayasia Airlines is poised to purchase 10 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, according to sources reported by Bloomberg News, in a move that would replace older Airbus jets.
Sources, according to Bloomberg, say Boeing is on the verge of clinching the order because of expedited delivery date, starting in 2031, ahead of what Airbus was able to offer. The advance schedule capability was attributed to GE Aviation offering better terms on engines for the 787-10 Dreamliners than Rolls-Royce Holdings. Malaysia Airlines parent group, Malaysian Aviation Group, is seeking to replace seven Airbus 350s it has been leasing. The airline’s entire wide-body fleet is comprised of Airbus jets. It operates 56 Boeing 737s, narrow-body jets, in its combined fleet of 92 airliners.
In 2017, Malayasia Airlines signed a memorandum for eight Boeing 787-9s but the order was never finalized. According to aviation industry analysts, a 10-plane order for 787-10 Dreamliners would cost between $3.4-$3.5 billion.
