They say there used to be a little settlement buried deep in these woods.
Nobody remembers its real name anymore.
The families that lived there kept to themselves—hunting, raising hogs, running moonshine, and staying far away from outsiders. Then something got into the water.
Some say it was a chemical spill. Others say the old-timers had been dumping things in those woods for years.
Whatever happened, the animals died first.
Then the people changed.
The ones who survived didn’t leave. They went deeper into the trees.
Years passed. The roads disappeared. The buildings rotted. And the woods swallowed almost everything that was left.
