EVERETT, OCT. 30: Officials have determined that the playground fire on Monday morning at Wiggums Hollow Park was intentionally set.
Everett Fire crews responded to reports of a playground fire around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 and quickly extinguished the flames.
However, the incident caused significant damage to the play equipment, forcing the playground to close indefinitely.
The Everett Fire Department Marshal’s Office announced the fire was intentionally set on Thursday, Oct. 30. The Everett Police Department is investigating the incident.

The playground had only recently reopened in June 2024 after a $700,000 replacement project funded through Capital Improvement Funds.
“It’s heartbreaking to see that the beautiful new playground at Wiggums Hollow Park was seriously damaged by a fire this morning,” Mayor Cassie Franklin said on Facebook. “This playground was designed with input from our Delta Neighborhood and community members – and it’s been such a joyful place for families since it opened in the summer of 2024.”
