Everett police identify person of interest in teen stabbing

EVERETT, JAN. 20: The Everett Police Department identified the person of interest in the stabbing of a 13-year-old male in Everett on Thursday, Jan. 16. 

Everett Police have identified Andrew Freeman Jr. as the person of interest. In the most recent description posted on Facebook, Everett Police said he was a light-skinned Black male, 6 feet tall and in his late teens or early twenties. 

According to records from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Bureau, Freeman was arrested at 9:21 a.m. on Thursday, Jan.16, just after the stabbing, for possessing a controlled substance. He was arrested by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. 

Freeman was released at 2:14 p.m. the following day, Jan. 17. 

If seen, do not approach and call 911 immediately.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, a teen boy was stabbed just before 8 a.m. near the 2500 block of Broadway on his way to North Middle School. 

The student walked onto campus with apparent stab wounds and reported being assaulted off-campus by an unknown adult. The school staff called 911 and provided care to the student. 

The teen was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center. He is reported to be in stable condition. 

North Middle School went into a precautionary lockdown after, which ended at 10:30 a.m. 

Everett Police have been searching for the person of interest since. They have utilized a K9 track and a drone to search for the suspect. 

Police also increased their presence around North Middle School and Everett High School. 

This is the third major incident involving a teenager since November, according to KOMO News. 

A meeting led by Everett Chief of Police John DeRousse last week tried to reassure the neighbors in North Everett of their dedication to finding the suspect. 

“We still have no idea why it occurred. This poor kid got attacked on the way to school, and we are going to try to figure it out,” said DeRousse.

This is an ongoing investigation.
