EVERETT — On Dolly Parton Day, September 25, known numerically as 9-2-5, KXA Classic Country morning show co-host Stitch Mitchell dyed his hair pink to encourage donations for cancer research and listeners responded pouring in more than $2700.
The annual fundraiser has become known as “Pink Mitchell Day’ on the morning show, co-hosted by Anita Moffet and Stitch Mitchell on KXA 1520 AM and 96.9 FM, headquartered in Everett. This year’s fundraising theme was dedicated to the recent passing of country music, pop culture icon and philanthropist, Dolly Parton, who died in late August after battling cancer. Mitchell and Moffet invited supporters to donate $9.25 for cancer research funding on 9/25 to honor Parton’s hit theme song and movie “9 to 5.”
Mitchell’s bold shade of magenta was administered by owner and proprietor of Maintenance Salon in Everett, Elizabeth Lambert. The optically bright shade was applied during on-air segments of Mitchell and Moffet’s daily wake up show, from 6-9 a.m. During the show, listeners were encouraged to donate to the American Cancer Society fund cancer research, patient support, and advocacy efforts to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone.
Donations can still be made by clicking here through October, which is both globally and nationally known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
CDAS Construction in Everett, generously topped the “Pink Mitchell” donations with $925, ten times the suggested donation price Mitchell and Moffet hoped individual fans would contribute. Mitchell and Moffet both shared their gratitude at generous donations made for such a vital cause.
