EVERETT — A 25-year-old man was arrested for climbing on the Interurban Trail pedestrian bridge, briefly shutting down vehicle traffic on the lanes of I-5 below, before deputies took the suspect into custody during the morning commute just north of 128th Street SW in south Everett.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department made the arrest after the suspect initially resisted orders to climb down.
“He was hanging on the bridge and climbing. It does not appear he was in distress,” SCSO spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe tells EverettPost.com. “He was wearing a full face-mask and was noncompliant when deputies ordered him to get down. He made comments about his climbing abilities.”
The 25-year-old male is being booked for disorderly conduct, obstructing, and trespass, according to O’Keefe, who added the freeway was closed for about 30 minutes before the subject was taken into custody at 8:14 a.m.
“It is standard procedure that we would stop freeway traffic below anytime a subject is hanging, climbing or sitting on the edge of an overpass, until the situation is resolved and the subject is moved out of a potentially dangerous situation,” O’Keefe explained. The first 911 call was reported at 7:41 a.m. and deputies were on scene at 7:45 a.m.
