Previous report said four were rescued, five paddleboarders were rescued.
EVERETT & MUKILTEO, AUG.19: Everett Fire and police departments were dispatched to rescue five paddleboarders caught in Sunday’s, Aug. 18 sudden storm around 5:20 p.m. between Edgewater Park 1504 1 St. and Mukilteo, according to a Facebook Post from Everett Fire.
An adult male in a kayak unrelated to the paddleboarders is missing in the same area. Everett Police is continuing its search of the missing male today.
According to today’s Facebook post, they rescued one individual from the water and two were found clinging to the end of the Boeing pier, where they used the ladder to get to safety. Another managed to get out of the water themselves.
Another person was rescued by Washington State Ferries rescue boat.
Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Northwest, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Mukilteo Fire and Police, South County Fire, and Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue participated in the rescue efforts.

Everett Fire urges the public to remember these safety tips:
- Wear a USCG-approved, properly fitted life jacket
- Have a whistle to use to signal for help
- Check weather reports before going out, as wind speed, water temperature, and current can all impact paddling
- Paddle with a buddy
- Understand the tides
UPDATE, AUG, 21: The Everett Police Department is continuing its search of the kayaker who was reported missing on Sunday evening. The department announced they are using a remote operated underwater vehicle (ROV) to search at deeper depths that divers are unable to reach Aug. 20.
The department has requested the assistance of neighboring jurisdictions for advanced technical equipment to continue their search efforts. This investigation is ongoing.
