KXA morning team, Stitch Mitchell and Anita Moffet, interviewed Parton’s niece, Heidi Parton, on the show this week about the transcendent career Parton had, punctuated for many fans by the movie and hit theme song, “9 to 5”.

Parton’s vast philanthropic efforts throughout her life and career are the motivation for Mitchell and Moffet’s 2026 fundraiser and request to donate $9.25, or more if you’re able, to the American Cancer Society, to honor that connection “9-2-5” for the hit movie and song.

KXA radio and EverettPost.com are both owned by the same parent company.

Mitchell, for five years, has been coloring his sable locks pink as part of KXA’s efforts to raise breast cancer awareness approaching each October for cancer awareness month. “Pink Mitchell Day” will return again the last Friday in September for the $9.25 fundraising effort to honor Parton’s unique legacy to fans.

Mitchell’s pink hair transformation was the brainchild of fellow KXA on-air talent, Heidi May. May tells, the EverettPost.com, “I started raising money for breast cancer research after my own diagnosis in 2010. Once I became a survivor, I knew I wanted to give back. What began as small fundraisers at local restaurants and bars eventually moved to my own backyard, where musician friends volunteered to play and “Boob-A-Palooza” was born. Years later, I brought that same idea to KXA when I asked Stitch Mitchell if he would let me dye his hair pink on the air. He initially said no — then came back and said, “Why not?” And that’s how Pink Mitchell Day began.”

Now KXA fans are invited to select the shade of pink that Mitchell’s follicles will be technicolored for Pink Mitchell Day, bringing some listener interaction to the charity spectacle. Elizabeth Lambert, owner and proprietor of Maintenance Salon at 2707 Colby Avenue, Suite D, volunteers her styling services to transform Mitchell’s pate for optimum pinkness.

May adds, “Supporting breast cancer research has become part of everything I do. I donate a portion of every real estate sale to breast cancer research, and I’ve also been a top fundraiser for the Seattle Mariners’ Pink at the Park and had the incredible honor of throwing out the first pitch. This year’s game is on the 27th. Pink Mitchell Day is simply another way for me to give back, honor survivors, support those still fighting, and help fund the search for a cure.”
