SNOHOMISH COUNTY, JAN. 6: Snohomish County PUD electric and water rates will increase for all customer classes due to rising costs of materials and equipment.
All electric system rate increases will go into effect on April 1, 2026.
Most residential customers will see their electric bill increase by $3.22 a month, Snohomish PUD said in a press release. While water rate increases took effect Jan. 1, customers will see an average bill increase of $3.33 per month.
Snohomish PUD provides electric service to roughly 380,000 homes and businesses and water service to more than 23,000 homes.
The Snohomish PUD approved the 2026 budget for electric, generation and water systems during a PUD Board of Commissioners meeting last month.
An overall 2.5% average increase was implemented, instead of the originally proposed 3% increase.
“By finding smart ways to be more efficient and prioritizing projects, we were able to keep the rate increase as low as possible and ease the impact on our customers,” John Haarlow, Snohomish PUD CEO/General Manager, said. “This adjustment ensures we can meet rising equipment and operational costs while continuing to deliver reliable and environmentally sustainable power.”
The rate increase for Snohomish PUD residential electric customers will be applied to the energy charge. The energy charge will increase from 10.26 cents per kilowatt-hour to 10.61 cents/kWh.
For small business customers, the energy charge will increase from 8.37 cents per kilowatt-hour to 8.57 cents per kilowatt-hour, with the average monthly bill increasing $4.55.
This increase comes a year after Snohomish PUD implemented rate increases to address unforeseen costs after severe weather in the region.
Snohomish PUD budgeted an additional $14.4 million in 2026 to help customers pay for energy efficiency programs such as insulation and duct sealing.
