EVERETT, APRIL 6: Walk MS is returning to Everett on Saturday, April 25 at 9 a.m. at the Port of Everett. Multiple sclerosis, or more commonly known as MS, is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system where the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective myelin sheath covering nerve fibers. This damage interrupts nerve signals, leading to varied symptoms like numbness, vision loss, weakness, and fatigue.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) was founded in 1946 with a mission to cure MS while empowering people affected by it to live their best lives.  Over the years, many locations across the country come together to raise awareness and funds to support those affected. Community driven events like Walk MS have played a critical role in funding research breakthroughs, advancing treatment options, and building a strong support network for millions impacted by the disease. Today, Walk MS takes place in more than 300 communities nationwide, symbolizing both how far progress has come and how much work remains.

Walk MS events have been a long-standing tradition in Washington state to support the NMSS, with documented, active participation in the Seattle area dating back to at least 2011. The Walk MS experience emphasizes how people and organizations can help improve a person’s life with MS. Everyone at Walk MS plays a powerful role in the MS community, whether you live with MS or care about someone who does.

The Everett community will come together at the Port of Everett with one shared purpose: to indicate an established, recurring local presence. The walk will be located at 1028 13 Street Everett WA 98201. The site will be open at 9 a.m., participants can access the grounds and visit sponsors, enjoy a breakfast-themed snack and commemorate the day with a photo. At 9:45 a.m. the Official Ceremony begins and includes an interactive component for participants. At 10 a.m. participants start walking on the site’s supported and accessible routes, featuring a hydration station with water.

You can show your support in many ways, but Walk MS showcases “Circles of Support”, an interactive way to self-identify in the MS community. Visit the Circles of Support Area and pick up your complimentary hand-held circle to participate in the Opening Ceremony. Orange represents living with MS, Green represents loving or supporting someone with MS living or remembrance, and Yellow represents those who support the society’s mission.

Walk MS also invites you to “complete the circle”. Visit this interactive display to demonstrate support, love and remembrance for individuals diagnosed with MS. Choose a sticker color that symbolizes your connection to the MS community and leave your personal mark by writing your name or message.

Participants can expect a welcoming, energetic atmosphere filled with music, community booths, and inspiring stories from those affected with MS. Many walkers form teams, creating a sense of unity and shared purpose that extends far beyond the event itself. By participating, donating, or volunteering, community members can play a direct role in changing lives.
