EVERETT, JAN. 13: The City of Everett welcomes Mike Fong, who has been appointed as the city’s new senior executive director for economic development and opportunity.
In his new role with Everett, Fong will lead efforts to strengthen the city’s economy; support businesses; attract development and investment; and sustain long-term job growth, a press release from the city said. He will begin his new role Feb. 9.
Fong brings decades of economic development and public administration experience at the local, state and national levels. This includes leadership roles with the Washington State Department of Commerce and the U.S. Small Business Administration, advancing initiatives that increased housing development and boosted small business support.
“Mike is a thoughtful, community-oriented leader with unmatched experience and a proven track record of advancing opportunity and economic growth,” Mayor Cassie Franklin said. “His leadership will take Everett’s economic development work to the next level: building upon our recent successes and making the most of the opportunities before us while still staying true to who we are as a community.”
Most recently, Fong served as executive director for economic development with Snohomish County.
Previously, Fong served as Snohomish County’s chief recovery and resilience officer, helping to coordinate the strategic investment of $160 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds countywide.
Fong will be joining the City of Everett team ahead of the retirement of long-time employee Lori Cummings, who currently serves as a senior executive director. Cummings has served the city for 42 years in both the parks department and administration.
